Job Title: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Linguistics (Teaching and Research)
Job Rank: Asst/Assoc Professor
Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Multilingualism; Bilingualism
Description:
The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester
invites applications for a permanent post in Linguistics (Lecturer or Senior
Lecturer), within the Department of Linguistics and English Language, tenable
from 1st September 2021.
You will have an established record of excellence in theory-driven research
and research-led teaching. Crucially, you will also have an established record
in the creation and delivery of activities and initiatives that translate
research into beneficial activity or positive change in the wider community
beyond academia, generating ‘impact’ as defined in the UK Research Excellence
Framework. The department will consider candidates with a strong record of
research outputs and a strong record of demonstrable impact on society in any
area of linguistics, but particularly welcomes candidates with research or
teaching expertise in multilingualism or bilingualism.
You will be expected to make a strong contribution to the research and
research-impact strategy of the School by publishing high-quality
peer-reviewed research outputs and by translating their research into
activities and initiatives that have a demonstrable positive impact on
society. You will be expected to contribute to curriculum design and
research-led teaching on the English Language and Linguistics undergraduate
programmes and the Linguistics MA programme. You will also be expected to
contribute to administrative tasks within the Department or School, and
participate in regular recruitment activities and staff-student events.
You will be expected to follow the University’s New Academics Programme and be
subject to a probationary period. Lecturers on probationary appointments
benefit from reduced teaching loads during the period of probation.
