The productive use of grammatical markers by children with Developmental
Language Disorder
Supervised by: Dr Javier Aguado-Orea and Dr Hannah Witherstone
Previous studies have suggested that children with Developmental Language
Disorder (DLD) display different symptoms across languages. This has been
interpreted as an indicator of early grammatical knowledge, present in
typically developing children, but not in DLD children. However, these
assumptions rely on very limited datasets. This project will explore the
cognitive mechanisms that allow children to produce grammatically-correct
sentences in English and Spanish. Child participants will be recruited for
both languages. As a PhD candidate, you will be expected to have an interest
in language processing and learning, as well as working with children. You
will contribute to the creation of auditory stimuli using online software
(e.g., testable.org). No previous knowledge of Spanish language is required,
although it is advisable. Proficiency in quantitative data analyses (ideally
using R) is also advisable.
