Description:
The University of York is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral Research Fellow
(a Senior Post-Doc), funded by the University of York, Language Learning, and
the UK Government's Department for Education, to consolidate and extend the
research and evaluation programme associated with the activities of NCELP (the
National Centre for Excellence in Language Pedagogy).
We are looking for an outstanding researcher with the experience and ability
to:
- Produce research and impact in the area of foreign language education i.e.,
‘instructed second language acquisition’ in French, German and/or Spanish
- Plan, manage, and undertake research/impact projects related to NCELP, using
robust (probably mixed-methods) experimental designs including evaluations of
one or more of: teaching interventions; test validity and reliability;
professional development programmes
- Contribute to or lead on obtaining external research and/or impact funding
- Contribute to professional and public understanding of research, including
helping to establish a master’s programme which would provide academically
rigorous professional development for educators in languages other than
English, with national and international reach.
You will have a first degree in one or more of French, German, Spanish,
linguistics, psychology, or education, and a PhD or equivalent in one of:
(applied) linguistics, (cognitive) psychology, education. A full job

The role is available for 24 months, full-time or part-time (minimum of 0.4
FTE - 14.8 hours per week). We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds,
including those looking for a secondment, such as: a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer
(Assistant/Associate Professor); an experienced research-driven teacher
educator; a post-doctoral researcher or research-driven teaching fellow.
The post is open to national and international applicants. Some amount of
working from home will be possible, but work on site at the University and
travelling to schools in England will be an important part of the role.
