Subject: Second Call for Chapters: Italian as a Heritage Language

The editor of “Linguistic approaches to Italian as a heritage language”
invites you to submit a chapter to an edited volume to be pitched to John
Benjamins publishing. The volume will contain recent research on the thriving
area of heritage language acquisition focusing on Italian, a lesser-studied
language, which is nevertheless important for the development of heritage
language bilingualism on many fronts. For one, Italian is typologically
similar to its Romance brother, Spanish, which currently continues to stand at
the forefront of the heritage language research landscape. The ability to
juxtapose Italian to Spanish enables us to test current tentative hypotheses
based on the mainstream findings of Spanish as a heritage language and draw
firmer conclusions upon it. In addition, as a morphologically-rich language,
Italian presents a robust case for detailing the acquisition of inflectional
morphology, a domain which has time and again shown to constitute a staple of
ab initio normal language development, atypical language development, and
non-native language attainment.

In the first round of submissions, simple proposals for chapters that describe
previously unpublished whole or parts of empirical studies focusing on any of
phonology, semantics, syntax, morphology, and pragmatics are encouraged. The
proposal should be submitted via email to the editor (see information below)
and must contain the following:

1. A tentative title
2. Domain of grammar
3. Number of tables expected
4. A current CV

All queries welcome.
