Description:
The Department of English in the College of Humanities at the University of
Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus seeks to recruit a tenure-track teaching
position in Linguistics beginning August 1, 2021.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English Linguistics, or a closely
related field awarded from an accredited university, by the time of
appointment
- Academic expertise and research activity in one or more of the following
preferred areas: Caribbean linguistics, bilingualism, ethnolinguistics, and
language acquisition
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the university level
- Evidence of successful research and peer-reviewed publications commensurate
with professional level
-Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student
population
-Adequate skills in technologies used in the teaching-learning process and
distance-learning education
- Availability for supervising theses and dissertations
- Commitment to actively seeking external funding
Duties will include teaching in person and online and mentoring of
undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be able to
teach a wide range of introductory courses in linguistics, advanced
undergraduate courses, and graduate (M.A.and Ph.D.) courses that reflect the
candidate’s expertise and meet departmental needs; strengthen the department’s
doctoral offerings on Caribbean languages; mentor undergraduate and graduate
students in their research and academic careers; supervise theses and
dissertations; and develop proposals for external funding. Evidence of
external funding will be seen favorably. A candidate with interest in the
languages and culture of Puerto Rico and knowledge of Spanish (or a
willingness to learn it) is preferred.

- Evidence of quality of teaching, and
