Subject: General Linguistics: Full Professor, University of York, UK
University or Organization: University of York
Department: Department of Language and Linguistic Science
Job Location: York, United Kingdom
Web Address: https://www.york.ac.uk/language/
Job Title: Head of Department
Job Rank: Full Professor
Specialty Areas: General Linguistics
Description:
The Department of Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York
seeks to appoint a Head of Department. The appointment will be at the
Professorial level. The role offers an exciting opportunity to lead an
established Department with a distinguished track record of research and
teaching and to shape its future in a changing environment. The appointee will
exercise leadership, demonstrate vision, and empower others in order to
deliver the agreed departmental strategy in line with faculty and university
objectives.
Our language teaching is based on Content and Language Integrated Learning,
with no separation between language learning and cultural studies. Our
linguistics teaching is consistently research-led with an increasing focus on
skills development. We will particularly value applications from individuals
who will enable the department to maximise its potential in the synergy
between languages and linguistics, take advantage of new opportunities for
collaboration and partnerships, and whose research profile will enhance our
research activities, which are organised into several groups: Phonetics &
Phonology, Morphology, Syntax & Semantics, Forensic Speech Science,
Sociolinguistics, History of English, Interaction, Early Language Development,
Second Language Acquisition, Language & Speech Processing & Production.
We particularly welcome applications from female candidates, and candidates
from minority ethnic backgrounds, who are under-represented in leadership
roles in the institution.
Applicants interested in an informal discussion regarding the position are
encouraged to contact Paul Ellison (Recruitment Adviser),
paul.ellison at york.ac.uk.
