Meeting Description:
We are delighted to announce that the 10th iteration of the BAEL conference
will take place in the form of a virtual conference on Thursday, 10th June to
Saturday, 12th June 2021.
Instead of a special focus topic, this extended version of our yearly
conference will cover research from all areas and strands of Applied
Linguistics, with three established keynote speakers representing different
aspects of the field:
- Professor Dr. Dr. H.C. Juliane House (Univeristy of Hamburg)
The Pragmatics of English as a lingua franca
- Professor Dr. J. César Félix-Brasdefer (Indiana University Bloomington)
Pragmatic competence, awareness, and intercultural impoliteness: A
sociopragmatic perspective
- Professor Dr. Klaus P. Schneider (University of Bonn)
On first-order pragmatics: Speech act recognition, the meta-illocutionary
lexicon, and some other ideas
