Description:
Informal and alternative place names constitute a highly symbolic and
informative component of societies' intangible cultural heritage. Given
ideological power dynamics and processes of standardisation, these names are
often lost. However, it remains important to collect them. This workshop aims
to equip researchers with the free, open-source tools to do so. The workshop
is presented by Dr Gerhard Rampl, who in addition to serving as the Chair of
the Austrian Names Board, also conducted similar studies.

This workshop will be of value to researchers as well as practitioners in the
field of place names research.
