Description:

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film invites applications from
scholars for a key appointment in Sociolinguistics in the Department of
Linguistics. The position can be filled at the level of Senior Lecturer,
Reader or Professor. Applications are invited from candidates with substantial
research and training expertise in both quantitative and qualitative subfields
of sociolinguistics. Specialisation in language variation, sociolinguistic
perception, gender and sexuality, linguistic anthropology and/or interaction
are of particular interest.

You will make significant contributions to the intellectual life of the School
and field of Sociolinguistics. You will contribute to the delivery of
high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs,
including making innovations in teaching and learning, supervision of
students, and enhancing student experience as well as contributing as a senior
academic to the wider achievements of the School.

You will make important research contributions within your field, advancing
the subject or profession through publications and public engagement within
sociolinguistics. You will be responsible for supporting, mentoring and
coaching research colleagues within their roles and wider career development,
fostering collegiality through role-modeling and fulfilling School-wide
responsibilities.

About You:
You will hold a PhD and/or relevant professional qualification together with
the ability to deliver teaching and assessment, shaping and influencing the
curriculum. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues,
and good organisational and communicative skills are also
essential. Candidates at the Professor level are expected to contribute to the
development of the School’s teaching and research strategies.
