Subject: Language and Cross-Cultural Communication in Travel and Tourism: Strategic Adaptations
A book edited by
Dr. Soumya Sankar Ghosh; Ms. Debanjali Roy
Mr. Tanmoy Putatunda; Dr. Nilanjan Ray
Scope:
This proposed volume will cross-examine culture and inter-cultural facets in
tourism in detailed analyses of tourism interactions and focus on the notion
of culture as a process or phenomenon engaged in or enacted on by individuals.
Drawing on discourse analytics (e.g. Pattachitra handicraft in West Bengal,
India) and ethnographic approaches, this proposed book attempts to bring
together perspectives from the lived experiences of residents, hosts, and
ethnographers to explore the extent to which linguistic and cultural
differences are identified, constructed, negotiated and maintain a
relationship in tourism encounters. The volume will draw on insights from
those working across a range of geographic contexts and explores the interplay
of these issues in various languages and how ethnic language can be used in
tourism interactions.
