Meeting Description:
The Excellence in Pedagogy and Innovative Classrooms (EPIC) Program, an

“Building Sustainable Modern Language Programs: The Next Generation of
Transformative Language Courses” conference focused on language pedagogy.
Conference sessions will be held remotely from Friday, May 20 to Saturday, May
21, 2022, with an in person conference dinner on Saturday.
2nd Call for Papers:
Deadline Extended: April 13, 2022
EPIC-Lang(uage) invites you to propose full panel sessions or individual
papers which aim to explore the future of Modern Language programs through
building stable and sustainable language programs for the next generation of
learners. While re-imagined language classes focus more on teaching academic
and critical thinking skills rather than language specific skills, the current
transformed language learning and teaching landscape compels us to redesign
our language programs and make them sustainable, accessible, and diverse in
their objectives. We seek proposals that address the needs of future language
learners and educators in Language Humanities, and proposals that develop
innovative curricula to enable sustainable language programs and empower
students at the same time. The goal of this EPIC-Lang international conference
is to provide a comprehensive academic experience for language educators of
all languages at the University level.
We welcome individual paper or full panel proposals on any of the following
themes:
– Language as content
– Student Empowerment through Language courses
– Models for sustainable language programs
– Language Courses for Social Justice
– Multilingualism, Translanguaging, Intercomprehension in Language Classes
– Language Across Curriculum
– Orthographies and Writing Proficiencies
– From Research to classroom
– Sign language and multimodal communication
– Intercultural and Multicultural communication
– Examples of transformed methodology in language courses
Individual presentations will be allotted 20 minutes each while panels will be
allotted 50 minutes and may comprise 3-4 speakers. Each panel proposal must
identify their speakers clearly in the proposal. We welcome submissions from
faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars.
Panel or paper proposal submissions must include the following:
– paper abstract(s)
– presenter name(s)
– institutional affiliation and title or rank
– email information for all presenters
To be considered for the conference, proposals must be submitted by Wednesday,
April 13, 2022. For questions, contact epic at humnet.ucla.edu.
