Dates: 18-Jul-2022 - 22-Jul-2022
Location: Amsterdam, North-Holland, Netherlands

Focus: Reliable and systematic identification of metaphors using the MIPVU procedure
Minimum Education Level: BA

Special Qualifications:
The target audience are MA students, PhD students, and Post-docs from the fields of linguistics, communication studies and related fields who are working on, or are interested in, the analysis of metaphor in written or spoken language and who wish to expand their methodological skills. Highly motivated 3rd year BA students are also welcome.

Description:
Metaphors are all around us - a tsunami of corona cases, fighting Covid-19,
beating the virus, etc. But how can we reliably and systematically collect
them for further study? A systematic, step-by-step protocol developed at Vrije
Universiteit, the 'MIPVU' procedure (Steen et al. 2010), can assist you in
doing exactly that. Through hands-on activities, Dr. Tina Krennmayr will guide
you through each step of the MIPVU metaphor identification procedure. You will
also get to know practical tools (software) to assist you in analyzing your
data.
