Description:
Mills College at Northeastern University is hiring for a part time faculty
member to teach one section of LING 1150, Introduction to Language and
Linguistics this fall. The semester begins September 7 and the course meets
fully in person on our Oakland campus on a T/F 10:35-12:15 schedule.
LING 1150. Introduction to Language and Linguistics (4 Hours):
Explores linguistics, the scientific study of language. Major topics include
phonetics (production of speech sounds), phonology (sound systems in
languages), morphology (structure of words), syntax (grammatical relationships
between words and sentences), and semantics (meaning of words and sentences).
Other topics may be surveyed such as the relationship between language and
culture, language use within speech communities, languages in contact, the
study of language change, language and brain, animal communication, and first
language acquisition.
Qualifications:
M.A. required, Ph.D. or A.B.D. preferred. Preference will be given to persons
experienced in teaching large and diverse groups of students.
