Description:
The Institute of English and American Studies, Faculty III (Linguistics and
Cultural Studies), at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Germany,
invites applications for the position of a Lecturer in English Linguistics
(m/f/d) (Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben) as a permanent part-time position
(60%) with working hours of currently 23.9 hours per week. The starting date
is 1 April 2023, and the salary will be based on the German public service pay
scale 13 TV-L.
Duties:
- Teaching in English Linguistics, including the fields of Language
Acquisition and Language Processing and, more generally, Psycholinguistics,
according to the teaching regulations of the federal state of Lower Saxony
(LVVO) and with reduced teaching duties (9 LVS / teaching hours per week),
primarily in first-year courses (Basismodul), but also in intermediate (BA
level) and advanced courses (MA level)
- Supervising students in academic and administrative matters
- Administrative tasks within the Institute of English and American Studies
(in collaboration with colleagues from all areas of English and American
Studies)
- Participating in committees at the institute, faculty, and/or university
level
Requirements:
- Master’s degree or equivalent diploma in English Linguistics, or in English
and American Studies with a focus on Linguistics, or a related discipline
- Ph.D. / doctoral degree in English Linguistics
- Completed research projects (e.g., doctoral dissertation, other
publications, talks) in Psycholinguistics, Language Acquisition, or Language
Processing (at least one of the three)
- Broad linguistic knowledge for introductory teaching
- Experience in teaching English Linguistics at university level
- Ability to work in a team; communication and advisory skills; IT skills
(e.g., MS Office)
- Native-like/near-native competence in English (C2)
- Knowledge of German at B2 level or higher
Preference will be given to applicants who fulfil as many of the following
additional criteria as possible:
- Teaching experience in the areas Psycholinguistics, Language Acquisition
(L1 and L2), and Language Processing at university level
- Experience with effective team- as well as addressee-oriented completion of
tasks within the scope of academic administration
- Experience in the following areas (relevant not only to Linguistics, but
also to the institute as a whole): digital organization of examinations and
digital examination methods; digital teaching and learning formats; quality
management; international student mobility
- Research interests resonating with existing research foci in the area of
English Linguistics in the institute
- Experience with international cooperations (e.g., student mobility,
teaching and/or re-search)
