Meeting Description:
The International Conference on Middle English (ICOME) is devoted to
linguistic and literary research on Middle English (broadly conceived),
textual criticism, manuscript studies, language change, language variation,
and related topics. ICOME conferences have so far been held at Rydzyna (1994),
Helsinki (1997), Dublin (1999), Vienna (2002), Naples (2005), Cambridge
(2008), Lviv (2011), Murcia (2013), Wroclaw (2015), Stavanger (2017) and
Florence (2019).
We are thrilled to be hosting ICOME 2022 in Glasgow (22-26 August) and to
welcome three exciting plenary speakers:
- Anita Auer (University of Lausanne)
- Jeremy J. Smith (University of Glasgow)
- Elaine Treharne (Stanford University)
We are looking forward to seeing you in Glasgow!
Call for Papers:
Opens on: 31 January 2022
Closes on: 31 March 2022.
Second call for papers with registration details will be posted in March.
Notification of acceptance will be sent out in late April / early May.
Please follow the instructions in the Call for Papers and submit your abstract
via Easy Abs: http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/icome2022
We welcome abstract submissions on topics related to any aspect of linguistic
and literary research on Middle English (broadly conceived), textual
criticism, manuscript studies, language change, language variation, and
related topics.
We are planning three presentation formats*:
> Posters: this format is particularly suitable for ongoing projects, early
career scholars, and postgraduate and doctoral students.
> Full papers: 30 minutes (20-minute talk + 10-minute discussion)
> Thematic workshops: 90 minutes or 180 minutes > contributions on a selected
topic. We welcome a variety of formats and activities.
*No more than one individual and/or co-authored presentation per participant.
For Posters and full Papers:
Your abstract should be no longer than 300 words (excluding references), and
outline your research question(s), approach, data and/or materials used, and
projected conclusions.
For Thematic Workshops:
Your abstract should be no longer than 300 words (excluding references), and
outline the purpose of the workshop and the research questions addressed. In
addition, you should include the titles of any envisaged presentations, but
NOT the names of your presenters.
Workshops will be 90 minutes or 180 minutes.
Submissions will be subjected to a double-blind peer-review processes.
