Subject: Search Engines for Language Data

 
The Language Data Commons of Australia project is building a discovery portal
and we are considering Solr and Elastic Search as the search engine component.
We would be very grateful if anyone can share their experiences using either
of these packages with data from different languages and using character sets
beyond ASCII.
Specifically:
1. Which search engine(s) have you used?
2. What did the search engine(s) do well?
3. Did you encounter any problems with the search engine(s)?

I will post a summary of responses.
