Call Deadline: 28-Feb-2022
Meeting Description:
The Department of Linguistics and English Language at the University of
Manchester will be hosting a special conference next year- a joint event
combining the 29th annual meeting of the Austronesian Formal Linguistics
Association (AFLA) and the ninth edition of the TripleA workshop for semantic
fieldworkers. This TripleAFLA virtual conference will take place from the 28th
of June to the 1st of July 2022.
INVITED SPEAKERS:
- Sasha Calhoun (Victoria University, Wellington)
- Tingchun Chen (National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu)
- Joash J. Gambarage (University of British Columbia, Vancouver)
- Paloma Jeretič (Leibniz-Centre for General Linguistics, Berlin)
- Manfred Krifka (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin)
- Luisa Martí (Queen Mary University of London)
The Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association (AFLA) dates back to an
initial meeting at the University of Toronto in 1994. Since then, the
association has promoted the formal study of Austronesian languages,
including, but not limited to, their phonology, morphology, syntax, and
semantics. The TripleA workshop series for semantic fieldworkers was founded
in 2014 by linguists from Potsdam and Tübingen with the aim of providing a
platform for researchers who conduct theoretically-informed linguistic
fieldwork that investigates meaning. Its focus is particularly on languages
that are under-represented in the current research landscape.

Last Call for Papers:
We invite submissions for 20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for discussion).
Submissions should ideally combine original data with formal linguistic
analysis. Given the joint nature of the conference, we invite two types of
submissions that reflect the two research communities involved: First,
submissions on any aspect of the grammar of Austronesian languages from a
theoretical perspective. Second, submissions that contribute formal research
on the semantics of under-researched languages.
Abstracts must be anonymous and written in English, and should be formatted
with A4 size paper and 2cm margins on all sides. Abstracts must be
single-spaced and written using 11pt font. Abstracts should be at most 2 pages
and must be submitted as a single PDF file. Authors may submit a maximum of
two abstracts, be they single or co-authored. We particularly encourage
submissions from graduate students and junior researchers.
EXTENDED SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
Monday, 28th February 2022, 23.59pm GMT
