Meeting Description:

This conference keeps in line with the Colloque Jeunes Chercheurs organized in
Metz, France in September 2018 (the proceedings of which has appeared in
Repères-Dorif n°19) and will focus on the issues of second language learning /
teaching / pedagogy / policies for migrants in the pandemic context. Fragile
and vulnerable already, the migrants are facing increasing challenges such as
freedom of mobility, access to online courses, the impacts of social
distancing due to Covid-19.

What is the role that play second languages in such contexts and how can
language training help the migrants gain recognition, visibility or social
identity? Therefore, we invite young researchers to discuss around one of, but
not limited to, the following perspectives:

1. How has the pandemic context changed the principles / systems of language
training for? Does the health crisis represent a factor of autonomy for the
migrant public or an obstacle to their ''integration'' into the hosting
society? To what extent do creative approaches (project training, creative
pedagogy within the framework of workshops, for example) constitute responses
to the problems / difficulties encountered in the field?
2. Is there a relationship between second language training and the “Emergency
Linguistics”? How could emergency language services be available to migrants
for language learning in the pandemic context?
3. What role does plurilingualism play in language training in migratory and
pandemic contexts? What are their representations? Is there a categorization
or stereotyping of principles in second language teaching for migrants in such
contests?
4. How do the learning experiences highlight the importance of recognition
between subjects in the classroom? How can we make the participation of
allophone learners in social life visible and recognizable? How can we help
our learners be visible and recognizable once they have mastered the language?

Dates of the conference: 22-23 September 2022 
Venue: Université de Lorraine, Saulcy Campus in Metz, France
Modality for participation: Hybrid (depending on sanitary situation) 
Languages of the conference: French, Italian and English. 
Registration fee: 65 euros (in person) or 35 euros (online)

Deadline for submission of proposals: 1st March 2022

Date of notification of acceptance or rejection: 31 March 2022

Submission Guide

The proposals will contain on the first page, the name of the author(s) and
the name of his/her institutional affiliation, his/her email address, the
title a biographical note (five lines maximum). It will be followed, on
another page, by an abstract which will not mention the name of the author and
will be accompanied by a few bibliographical references (on the same page).
The proposal must be written in the language intended for the communication.
In order to ensure a better understanding by all the participants, PowerPoint
presentations must be written in a different language than the one intended
for the oral presentation.Papers should not exceed 500 words (bibliography
included).
