Qualified candidates for the position will have a PhD in Linguistics with a
focus on syntax and/or semantics, and the ability to supervise research and
teach courses in these areas at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The
ability to teach courses in psycholinguistics is also an asset.

The academic responsibilities of an Assistant Professor at UVic include
teaching, research and service, with a balance of commitment between each
component as set out in the Collective Agreement. Accordingly, we seek
candidates with:
 - evidence of high-quality research, shared through academic publications and
other outlets, such as peer-reviewed digital works and community-based works
of scholarship; demonstration of meaningful, respectful collaboration with
communities and outcomes supporting their well-being is an asset
 - evidence of outstanding teaching ability, including cultural sensitivity
and the ability to teach and give effective feedback to a diverse student body
with a range of perspectives, experiences and cultures
 - evidence of ability to work collaboratively in an academic unit and serve
as a role model and/or mentor for students experiencing barriers to equity
