The Annual Conference of the Australian Linguistic Society will be held at The
University of Melbourne from 30 November until 2 December 2022.

Call for Papers:

Annual Conference of the Australian Linguistic Society, The University of
Melbourne 30 November – 2 December 2022

We invite papers for the Annual Conference of the Australian Linguistic
Society held at The University of Melbourne from 30 November until 2 December
2022. The conference will be held in person but themed sessions may be in
person, hybrid or fully online (see below). We welcome papers on all aspects
of linguistics.

Please submit an abstract of your paper, maximum one A4 page of text,
including title. The abstract may also include an additional A4 page of
examples, figures, tables and references. Each abstract should be in a single
file in Word (*.dox, *.docx) or PDF (*.pdf), in 12-point font with 2cm on all
margins. On the additional page, 10-point font may be used. The abstract must
be anonymous and should not include any author names or affiliations.

Abstracts should be submitted online via the ALS 2022 EasyChair website (if
you don’t have an EasyChair account you will have to create one):
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=als2022
Deadline for abstracts: 14 August 2022
Notification of acceptance: 14 September 2022
As part of the EasyChair online submission form, you will be asked to supply
author name(s) and affiliation(s), presentation title, keywords and topics,
your preferred presentation type (oral or poster presentation) and which
thematic session, if any, you would like to present within. Thematic sessions
will be announced in a second call for papers. You will also need to upload
your abstract as an anonymous Word or PDF file.

All abstracts will be reviewed anonymously with feedback given to the
author(s).

Abstract Review Criteria
Each abstract will be double-blind reviewed. The reviewers will consider the
degree to which each abstract:
- situates the study within its research context and demonstrates a clear
theoretical, methodological and/or practical contribution to the field;
- coherently articulates its topic and objectives;
- outlines the data being analysed and how it will be analysed; and
- is of potential interest to an ALS audience.

Call for thematic session proposal

We invite proposals for sessions on any aspect of linguistics. Themed sessions
should contain 5-8 talks on a coherent theme to be described in a paragraph of
ca. 300 words plus references. Themed sessions can replace talk slots with a
discussion slot as the organisers see fit. The organisers may choose
in-person, hybrid or fully online for their session, and should indicate this
in the proposal. All session abstracts will be reviewed together with the
abstracts for the general program. Accepted abstracts that are not deemed
suitable by session organisers will be included in the general program.
Proposals should be sent directly to conf at als.asn.au by 30 June 2022. In
addition to a description, proposals need to include the name(s) and
affiliation(s) of the organiser(s). Indications of (potential) speakers are
welcomed. Accepted sessions will be advertised by 10 July 2022.
