Meeting Description:

For more than sixty years, generative grammar has had a significant impact on
the ways philosophers think about language and the mind. This conference aims
at bringing together philosophers and linguists to discuss philosophical
topics related to generative grammar and linguistic developments that may be
of interest to philosophers. The conference is organised by the Department of
Philosophy of Universidad del Valle.

Durante más de sesenta años, la gramática generativa ha influenciado
significativamente la manera en que los filósofos piensan acerca del lenguaje
y la mente. Este congreso busca congregar a filósofos y lingüistas para
discutir sobre temas filósofos relacionados con la gramática generativa y
sobre desarrollos lingüísticos que puedan tener relevancia para la filosofía.
El congreso es organizado por le Departamento de Filosofía de la Universidad
del Valle.

2nd Call for Papers:

Philosophy and Generative Grammar
Online conference May 4–6, 2022

For more than sixty years, generative grammar has had a significant impact on
the ways philosophers think about language and the mind. This conference aims
at bringing together philosophers and linguists to discuss topics in the
philosophy of generative grammar and linguistic developments that may be of
interest to philosophers.

Keynote speakers
Brenda Laca (Universidad de la República)
Georges Rey (University of Maryland)
John Collins (University of East Anglia)

We invite abstracts for 50-minutes talks (30-minutes-presentation +
20-minutes-Q&A). Abstracts can be in English or Spanish. Each submitted
abstract should be anonymised and should be no longer than 500
words—references are excluded from this word-limit. 

Possible topics include:
- The concept of I-language and the role of I-languages as the objects of
linguistic theory
- The epistemology/methodology of generative linguistics
- Generative grammar and the internalism/externalism debate in the philosophy
of mind
- The interaction between the language faculty and other cognitive systems
- Nativism about the language
- The usefulness of referentialist semantics for generative linguistics
- The philosophical significance of the minimalist program
- The syntax/semantics interface 

Abstracts discussing technical developments in formal syntax or formal
semantics will be welcome, provided that they throw light on some
philosophical aspect of generative grammar.

Filosofía y gramática generativa
Congreso en línea. 4 a 6 de mayo de 2022

Durante más de sesenta años, la gramática generativa ha influenciado
significativamente la manera en que los filósofos piensan acerca del lenguaje
y la mente. Este congreso busca congregar a filósofos y lingüistas para
discutir sobre la filosofía de la gramática generativa y sobre desarrollos
lingüísticos que puedan tener relevancia para la filosofía.

Expositores invitados
Brenda Laca (Universidad de la República)
Georges Rey (University of Maryland)
John Collins (University of East Anglia)

Invitamos a investigadores interesados a presentar resúmenes para conferencias
de 50 minutos (30 minutos de presentación + 20 minutos de discusión). Los
resúmenes pueden estar escritos en español o en inglés. Deben ser anónimos y
no han de exceder las 500 palabras –excluyendo el apartado de bibliografía–.

Posibles temas de los resúmenes:
- El concepto de lenguaje-I y el papel de los lenguajes-I como objetos de
estudio de la teoría lingüística
- La epistemología/metodología de la lingüística generativa
- La gramática generativa y el debate internismo/externismo en la filosofía de
la mente
- La interacción entre la facultad del lenguaje y otros sistemas cognitivos
- Innatismo acerca del lenguaje
- La utilidad de la semántica referencialista para la lingüística generativa
- La relevancia filosófica del programa minimista
- La integración de la sintaxis y la semántica

Los resúmenes que aborden desarrollos técnicos de la sintaxis formal o la
semántica formal serán bienvenidos, siempre y cuando arrojen luz sobre algún
aspecto filosófico de la gramática generativa.
