The English programme is part of the Languages Unit in the Faculty of
Information Technology and Communication Sciences. The linguistics section of
the English programme has a strong research and teaching profile in language
variation and change, World Englishes, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics,
lexicology, syntax, second-language acquisition, and language contact. We
offer our students the opportunity to study various forms of linguistic
expression, including online language and social media, dictionaries, everyday
conversations, and digitised language databases such as newspaper corpora.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be teaching at both BA and MA levels. The
teaching load will be about 8 weekly contact hours per semester. This will
include co-teaching introductory courses (such as “Grammar and Context”),
teaching thematic seminars and an advanced-level methodology course, as well
as supervising BA and possibly MA theses. The successful candidate will also
participate in the research activities of the department. They will also take
on some administrative duties (e.g. academic advising and curriculum
development).
Requirements:
Candidates are required to have a PhD in the field of English linguistics, a
strong research profile including high-level publications, as well as relevant
academic teaching experience. They are expected to have (an) ongoing research
project(s) that complement(s) the research profile of the department.
Candidates should be able to teach a broad range of topics in English
linguistics. They are also expected to have a minimum of 10 credits (or
equivalent) in university pedagogy.
We offer:
We offer a fixed-term employment of 24 months (1 August 2022 – 31 July 2024);
the trial period is 6 months). The salary will be based on both the job
requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the
Finnish University Salary System. The position of a University Lecturer is
placed on the job demands level 6 (teaching and research staff). A typical
starting salary is around 4000 EUR/month.
