Description:

The successful candidate will be awarded a four-year PhD grant at the ACTE lab
(https://acte.ulb.be), Université libre de Bruxelles. They will be writing a
PhD dissertation under the supervision of Mikhail Kissine on a detailed
analysis of spontaneous speech in a large sample of 3- to 7-year-old autistic
children in the French-speaking part of Belgium. This PhD dissertation is part
of Belgian Language in Autism Cohort, a large multicentric and multilingual
longitudinal project on the linguistic trajectories in autism, led by ACTE, at
Université libre de Bruxelles (https://acte.ulb.be), LAURES, at KU Leuven
(https://www.kuleuven.be/laures), and RIDDL, at Gent University
(https://www.ugent.be/pp/ekgp/en/research/research-groups/riddl). In addition
to focusing on the detailed analysis of speech data, the successful candidate
will be expected to help coordinate the collection and the transcription of
these data. All PhD students working within the project will have the
opportunity to receive training in all the experimental tools used in the
project (such as the administration of standardized cognitive, linguistic and
autism-specific psychometric tools and questionnaires, EEG or measures of
statistical learning), and to spend time in the other labs involved in the
project. The monthly net salary is expected to be around 2100 € the first two
years, and 2170 € the third and the fourth years.

Required: 
 - Being awarded a MA diploma or equivalent in linguistics, psychology, speech
therapy or cognitive science no later that August 1, 2022;
 - A record of excellent academic grades;
 - Training in the analysis of linguistic data;
 - Native or native-like French;
 - Excellent mastery of academic English;
 - Being prepared to collect data across Belgium with flexible working hours;
 - Excellent inter-personal skills;
 - Interest in autism and language acquisition.

Desirable: 
 - Experience in autism or other neuro-developmental conditions;
 - Driving license;
 - Knowledge of Dutch;
 - Experience in quantitative data analysis.
