Description:
This postdoc position is part of the DFG research unit on Cyclic Optimization
housed in the Linguistics Department at the University of Leipzig
(https://www.philol.uni-leipzig.de/en/institute-of-linguistics/research/ru-cyc
lic-optimization). The successful applicant will join the group of Greg
Kobele, who is responsible for the subproject on formal properties of cyclic
optimization. The aim of the project is to explore how grammars making use of
cyclicity and optimization function, what their typological and/or
psycholinguistic predictions are, and how they can be implemented.
You will be expected to fulfill the following tasks:
- Collaborate with the other researchers working on the project (the PI, and
the broader research group);
- Regularly present research results at international workshops and
conferences, and publish them in conference proceedings and journals;
- Assist with the supervision of students;
- Participate in and contribute to the organisation of research activities
and events at the institute, such as workshops and colloquia;
- While this is primarily a research position, you may teach courses if you
desire.
Your experience and profile:
- a PhD degree in Logic, Linguistics, Philosophy, Computational Linguistics,
or a related discipline;
- a strong background in grammatical theory, as witnessed by publications in
relevant conference proceedings or journals;
- excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- In-depth knowledge of one of the following areas is a plus: 1) Cyclicity,
2) Formal theories of grammar (such as CCG, HPSG, MG, TAG, etc), 3) Formal
language theory.
Please note that knowledge of the German language is not required for this
position, nor is it required for being able to live in Leipzig. However, you
will have the opportunity to attend German language classes if you wish.
Salary is per the TVL-13 payscale. Funding exists for travel to international
conferences.
The position must begin by the end of September, although remote work is
possible at the beginning of the fellowship.
