Amherst’s Department of Linguistics are pleased to announce the 36th Annual
Symposium on Arabic Linguistics (ASAL 36) to be held at UMass Amherst on March
24-March 26, 2023.

CALL FOR PAPERS (Extended Deadline):
The deadline for submissions has been extended to November 15, 2022.
The Arabic Linguistics Society together with the University of Massachusetts
Amherst’s Department of Linguistics are pleased to announce the 36th Annual
Symposium on Arabic Linguistics (ASAL 36) to be held at UMass Amherst on March
24-March 26, 2023.
Papers are invited on topics that deal with theoretical and experimental
issues in Arabic Linguistics. Research in the following areas of Arabic
linguistics is encouraged: linguistic analysis (phonology, morphology, syntax,
semantics, and pragmatics), sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, discourse
analysis, historical linguistics, corpus linguistics, language acquisition,
and computational linguistics.

Michael Becker (University of Massachusetts Amherst)
Abbas Benmamoun (Duke University)
Maris Camilleri (University of Essex)
Ghada Khattab (Newcastle University)
Persons interested in presenting papers are requested to prepare an abstract,
following the guidelines at this link:

your abstract has been successfully submitted. Should you face any problem

Note that abstracts submitted must be written in English. Abstracts written in
any other language will be rejected. Please also note that abstracts submitted
by e-mail will not be accepted.
There will be at least three best student abstract awards; $300 each.
We are planning to have an online component to the conference, whose exact
format has yet to be determined. More information can also be found on the
