Meeting Description:
The conference focuses on systemic and sociolinguistic features of
German-speaking language minorities from the perspectives of variation
linguistics, language contact and multilingualism research. Situations and
phenomena of language contact that are shaping the multilingual communicative
practices of communities outside of German-speaking Central Europe will be of
central importance. Perspectives from perceptual research, e.g. on language
attitudes and linguistic ideologies that emerge in the environment of contact
varieties of German are especially encouraged.
Call for Papers:
We invite papers on any extraterritorial varieties of German worldwide, i.e.
contributions from any of the five continents. The conference decidedly wishes
to stimulate contrastive research on linguistic minorities and aims at
establishing research initiatives in this direction.
Abstracts for posters or oral presentations containing a maximum of 300 words
are welcome until January 1, 2023, and can be handed in at
https://www.conftool.net/german-abroad-2023/. The conference languages are
German and English. All abstracts need to be anonymized and will be
anonymously reviewed. Information about acceptance will be provided on March
15, 2023.
