Call for Papers:

Educational NLP for a Multilingual World: Research, Applications, and
Challenges

IJAIED is interested in promoting research and development on applications of
educational NLP in languages other than English. Of interest is also work that
compares tasks across languages. The rationale is to emphasize the challenges
and opportunities that working in non-English languages brings to educational
NLP, delineate the state of the art in this domain, and identify it as an
important topic within AIED.

Contributions that are relevant to this Special Issue are those that match the
aims and scope of the journal, focus on educational NLP, and include empirical
work in at least one non-English language. This may also include multilingual
frameworks, comparative studies that evaluate English vs
non-English/multi-lingual pipelines, or studies that address challenges in
non-English languages using translation schemes that enable transforming the
problem from the native language to English in order to use existing solutions
and tools. Articles are expected to discuss the challenges arising from
working in a particular language. Systematic literature review papers that
make a conceptual contribution beyond only summarizing the state-of-the-art in
the field are also welcome (in case of multiple overlapping proposals for
systematic reviews, authors may be invited to produce a joint paper).

The Special Issue will follow a two-phase process. In the first phase, authors
will submit an extended abstract (up to 1000 words) that will be reviewed by
the Guest Editors; abstract submission is open through Oct 15, 2022. In the
second phase, authors of promising abstracts will be invited to submit a full
paper that will undergo a regular review process; full paper submission
deadline is Feb 1, 2023.
