Description:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, York University
invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream
tenure-track appointment in Linguistics at the Assistant Professor level, to
commence July 1, 2023. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD in Linguistics (or equivalent) is required by July 1, 2023. Applicants
should have a clearly articulated program of research and a demonstrated
record of excellence or promise of excellence in scholarly research and
teaching.

We are seeking a candidate with expertise in quantitative approaches to
Linguistics, with a strong background in sociolinguistics. The successful
candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department’s undergraduate
Linguistics and Speech and Language Sciences program through curricular
development of courses in statistics, research design and methodology, big
data analysis and programming for Linguistics. The candidate will also be
expected to develop graduate courses in quantitative research methods and
analysis.

The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as
undergraduate teaching and the successful candidate must be suitable for
prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided
through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical
innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education
and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of
recommendation from three references.
