Description:
The Department of Languages and Literature of the University of Nicosia offers
one (1) position for a 3-year full-time PhD in TESOL in the field of speech
perception and production of L2 English. There might be partial scholarship
opportunities for suitable candidates. The PhD will be supervised by Dr
Georgios (George) Georgiou, Assistant Professor in Linguistics, who has
several publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals in the area of

What are the benefits:
- PhD can be completed in 3 years
- Students can be overseas and research their local context (it may be
necessary – on occasion – to come to Cyprus as and when required e.g., for
exams, the viva, training, research, etc.)
- There might be opportunities for partial scholarships
- There will be explicit guidance by the supervisor on the preparation of the
experiments, statistics, dissertation, etc.
- Students will engage in high-quality research and publish their findings in
reputable journals under the guidance of their supervisor
- Students will have the opportunity to present their work at international
conferences, seminars, and workshops
- Students will strengthen their CVs and they will expand their collaboration
bonds by participating in research groups such as the Cyprus Linguistics and
Humanities research group.
Eligibility criteria:
- Accredited Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., Humanities,
Social Sciences and Education)
- Accredited Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English
Language/Linguistics, or any other relevant field
- At least one year of teaching experience
- English language proficiency (at least one of the following): IELTS 7.0
with at least 6.5 in each of the skills, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency
in English (CPE): Grade B, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE):
Grade A, Pearson Test of English (Academic): 67 with a minimum of 60 in each
of the four skills, TOEFL-Internet Based Test: total 100 (at least 23 in each
module).

for quality education. The University has 25 research centers, including the
Cyprus Linguistics and Humanities research group, which is affiliated with the
Department of Languages and Literature.

- a research proposal (2,000-2,500 words, excluding references) outlining the
research topic (literature review), aim and objectives, research questions,
