Hello Linguist List Readers,
I’m Everett, the calls and conferences editor. I’m mostly responsible
for making sure that our conference submissions are readable,
well-formatted for the website, and scam free.
I have been working at the Linguist List since 2018 so I’ve seen a lot
of what people are working on in the linguistics community and the
breadth of research interests is quite vast. It has been nice to watch
certain research threads progress as the years have gone by and, as
I’ve mentioned in years prior, the ability to see such a wide array of
research interests is also personally useful. It has helped me to
figure out my own research interests and shown me other like-minded
researchers whose work I could look into.
For my own research, I work in computational linguistics. More
specifically, I study how neural networks can be applied for the
purposes of natural language processing. Recently I have become
interested in interpretability research for neural networks so that we
can better understand how they work and in turn hopefully better
understand what patterns and regularities they pick up on in different
languages.
I am quite grateful for the opportunity to research such things and
thus I deeply appreciate the support that the Linguist List has given
me. None of the aforementioned research would have been possible for
me without the Linguist List. None of the small moments of joy that I
have experienced when running across a very interesting LL post would
be possible without support from our community members like yourself.
Of course, I am simply one amongst many so I can only imagine the many
moments of joy that my fellow Linguist List readers have experienced
when they found a new conference to present at or an exciting new book
that they could learn from. It’s fulfilling to help others connect in
this way and your donations help us to continue doing that work. Thank
you to those of you who have already donated and if you have not
donated then consider doing so to help us to continue helping you.
Thank you for reading!
Best of luck in your endeavors,
- Everett
