Subject: Looking for Bilingual Adults (DE + FR)
Aims:
The University of Potsdam is currently seeking bilingual individuals
who have been raised with both French and German from a young age to
participate in a project led by Prof. Natalie Boll-Avetisyan. As
globalization and a multicultural society become more prevalent, the
number of multilingual individuals continues to rise. This makes it
crucial to investigate the impact of bilingualism on language
experiences, acquisition, and behavior in order to gain valuable
insights. Your support can play a vital role in contributing to this
research.
Requirements:
If you meet the following requirements, we would like to extend an
invitation to take part in our study:
- You are between the ages of 18-40
- Your native languages are standard German and French (when a dialect
is present, please let us know)
- You do not have any speech or hearing disorders.
- You were exposed to both languages before 2 years old.
If you do not meet one or more of the requirements, but generally have
a desire to participate in further studies, we would still be happy to
hear from you and welcome you to our subject database!
The study:
The study is divided into two parts, comprising an online task and a
follow-up phone call.
Part 1 (30 min): You will be presented with made-up words on your
computer or laptop and your objective is to determine how suitable
they would be for the German or French language. To participate in
this study, you will require a computer or laptop with internet
connectivity and either headphones or speakers.
Part 2 (30 min): We would like to gather more information about your
language usage. Specifically, we are curious to know which languages
were spoken in your family, during your time in kindergarten, and
throughout school. The interview will be conducted over the phone, and
we can work together to find a convenient date and time for this
conversation.
We would be delighted to hear from you if our offer has piqued your
interest. Additionally, if you know of anyone within your network who
may be a good fit for the study, we would appreciate it if you could
pass the information along.
As a gratitude, you will receive €20 for your participation.
