The Potsdam MorphoSyntax Lab

Linguistics at UPotsdam, Germany,

full-time postdoc position (40h/week).
Candidates should have strong expertise in formal (generative) syntax.
Additional expertise in areas such as experimental syntax, the
syntax-morphology or syntax-semantics interface, fieldwork/work on
understudied languages, typology, is highly welcome (but not a
prerequisite).
Intended starting date: between June and October 2024 (negotiable)
The employment is limited to max. 6 years (depending on previous
postdoc employments, in accordance with the WissZeitVG law; initial
contract period normally at least 3 years); substantial research and
travel funds are available. The salary (including social benefits) is
based on the pay scale TV-L E13 for state employees (see https://oeff
entlicher-dienst.info/c/t/rechner/tv-l/west?id=tv-l-2023&matrix=1 –
will be increased in 2024).
Expected qualifications:
- a PhD in linguistics (degree in hand at the latest when the
position starts)
- expertise in formal syntax documented by peer-reviewed publications
in international journals/presentations at major conferences (e.g.,
NELS, WCCFL, CLS, GLOW, etc.)
- some teaching experience is welcome (e.g., as a TA)
- knowledge of German is not required, all teaching can be in
English.
Responsibilities:
- original research in formal syntax
- teaching: 2 courses per semester (= 4 hours/week, in English) in
the syntax modules of the BSc and MSc Linguistics programs at the
Department of Linguistics
- support of the group leader in administration (e.g., admission of
MSc students, organization of lab-meetings, workshops and colloquia)
- support of graduate students
- supervision of BSc/MSc theses
