Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Western Washington University is inviting
applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning September
2023, pending final budget approval. We seek a specialist in syntax with
demonstrated ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses. The successful
candidate will also be expected to fulfill teaching and mentoring
responsibilities in ways that provide equitable and inclusive learning
environments for all students. The applicant would be expected to teach a core
course in morphosyntax, an advanced course in syntax, an English grammar
class, and introductory linguistics. The expected teaching load is 7 courses a
year on a 10-week quarter system (i.e., teaching 2 courses in each of three
quarters per year plus an Honors course).  

Required Qualifications: 
 - PhD at time of application OR ABD at time of application; 
 - Specialization in syntax and ability to teach introductory and advanced
syntax and morphosyntax (undergraduate); 
 - Demonstrated evidence of strong teaching ability; 
 - Ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues, including
a demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments
that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities
and backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications: 
 - Demonstrated commitment to excellence in scholarship and a dynamic research
agenda

backgrounds; and evidencing their commitment to fulfill teaching and mentoring
responsibilities in ways that provide equitable and inclusive learning

 - evidence of successful teaching (e.g., philosophy on teaching, student
evaluations, course materials, etc.); 
 - graduate transcripts; 
 - the names and contact information of three professional references. Do not
send letters of recommendation; three letters of recommendation will be
required and these will be requested of candidates' referees via the PageUp
system; and
 - If ABD, include verification of status from graduate school office, your
major professor, or the department chair. Finalists may be asked for student
course evaluations if they were not provided with the application. For
