Meeting Description:
The International Society for Functional Linguistics (Société
internationale de linguistique fonctionnelle - SILF) invites you to
participate in the 44th International Colloquium of Functional
Linguistics to be held in Kalamata, Greece, October 17-20, 2023, under
the auspices of the University of the Peloponnese.
Call for Papers:
TOPICS
Topic 1: The Greek language in all its forms: translocal,
transtemporal and social diversity
Formation and history of the Greek language; Analysis of Greek
language features: phonology, grammar, vocabulary; The development of
Greek in time and space: external and internal factors; Greek
language: present state and dynamics; The contact of Greek with other
languages; Greek language beyond Greece’s borders.
Topic 2: The expression of modality (will, desire, ability,
possibility, duty, politeness, etc.)
Language dependent specific characteristics of modal verbs, auxiliary
verbs and grammatical modality units at syntactic level; Establishment
of axiology (semantic values) of these lexical and grammatical units;
Modality: usage, language registers, diastratic variations, age of
speakers, etc.
Topic 3: Corpus linguistics and its contribution to language analysis
Synchronic and diachronic studies on all levels of language analysis
(phonology, morphology, vocabulary, syntax) on the basis of spoken,
written and multimodal corpora. Corpus studies of linguistic varieties
(dialects, text types etc.). Discourse analysis and corpora; New
approaches to literature – Corpus stylistics. Applications to language
teaching, lexicography and translation.
INDIVIDUAL COMMUNICATIONS
Pre-registration and deadline for submissions: March 31, 2023
The pre-registration and the abstract must be sent to BOTH email
addresses:

Abstracts should not exceed one A4 page (RTF format). Abstracts
submitted must include the title of the communication, the name(s) and
affiliation(s) of the researcher(s), an electronic mail address and be
accompanied by an indication of their purpose (contribution to one of
the three topics above or individual communication).
Communication abstracts received will be reviewed by the Scientific
Committee of the Colloquium. Participants will be informed on the
acceptance of their contribution (topic contribution or individual
communication) by the end of May. The second call for abstracts will
be sent in early June to the persons having responded to the first
call.
