Description:
The successful applicant will hold a Chair at the University of Freiburg. As
the post is funded by a program aimed at strengthening academic cooperation
between the Universities of Freiburg and Basel as part of the Eucor – The
European Campus Initiative, the professorship holder will be assigned to the
University of Basel (Switzerland) for part of their working time for a period
of up to six years.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an
outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial
achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of
a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected. We are
looking for expertise in typological and contact-linguistic approaches to the
English language, with focuses on at least two of the following areas: English
phonetics/phonology, syntax of present-day English, sociolinguistic
variation/World Englishes. Familiarity with state-of-the-art quantitative and
experimental methods is an additional asset.
