Speed-accuracy tradeoffs in aphasia: modeling approaches and clinical
implications.
William Evans, PhD, CCC-SLP
University of Pittsburgh
During language-dependent tasks, people with aphasia (PWA) often
demonstrate impaired accuracy, slowed processing speed, or both.
Therefore, better understanding speed-accuracy processing dynamics in
aphasia may have positive theoretical and clinical implications. This
talk will discuss a) recent response time modeling approaches that
have been used to characterize maladaptive speed-accuracy tradeoffs in
aphasia, and b) a related line of intervention research seeking to
develop more effective adaptive computer-based anomia treatments by
optimizing speed-accuracy tradeoffs during drill-based practice.
