University or Organization: University of Canterbury
Department: New Zealand Institute of Language Brain and Behaviour
Job Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Job Title: Post-Doctoral Fellow
Job Rank: Post Doc
Specialty Areas: Morphology; Acoustic Phonetics, Phonetics
Description:
The New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour is seeking
a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join the team of researchers working on a
project funded by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund titled
"Te reo Māori vowel sequences within and across morpheme boundaries".
The research team comprises Professor Jen Hay, Professor Jeanette
King, Dr Forrest Panther (all University of Canterbury) Simon Todd (UC
Santa Barbara), Márton Sóskuthy (UBC) and Dr Peter Keegan (University
of Auckland).
The project looks at the acoustics of te reo Māori vowel sequences,
and how this may be affected by variation in perceived intervening
morphological boundaries. It involves both corpus and experimental
work. We collect measures on morphological complexity, and investigate
how morphology affects aspects of the pronunciation of vowel
sequences.
Applications are invited from researchers with expertise one or more
of the following areas: te reo Māori, morphology, acoustic phonetics.
You will be conducting experimentation and statistical modelling, and
experience or capability in both of these areas is highly desirable.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be employed by the New Zealand Institute
of Language Brain and Behaviour, University of Canterbury and will be
required to relocate to Christchurch. The expected start is
negotiable.
Please follow the web address for applications below for more
information and to apply for this position. The deadline listed below
is in New Zealand time.
