Description:

The Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics (ZAS, www.leibniz-zas.de) is a
research institute of the Leibniz Association in Berlin, which
receives basic funding from federal and state governments and carries
out research projects with third-party funding. The institute's staff,
currently numbering about 60, investigates human linguistic ability in
general and in individual languages in order to create scientific
foundations for societal benefit.

ZAS invites applications for a three-year post-doctoral research
position in research area 4 -- Semantics and Pragmatics -- starting
between September 1st, 2023 and January 1st, 2024. The position is
planned to be full-time (38.5 hours/week), but applications for less
than full-time hours will be considered. The availability of funding
is not fully certain at this point.

Benefits of the Position:
 - work in a large and established group in semantics-pragmatics
 - an opportunity for independent research within the overarching
research themes of ZAS
 - support to apply for own grant funding from DFG, ERC, and other
sources
 - pay at the TVöD 13 Bund level of the German governmental scale
 - further benefits such as 30 vacation days and some research funds
 - brand-new office space in a central area in Berlin-Wilmersdorf
 - access to four labs (child-lab, motion-capture, phonetics, and
eye-tracking)
 - possibility to teach at Berlin area universities if desired

Position Requirements:
 - strong research expertise in semantics and pragmatics
 - completed Ph.D. by the time of appointment
 - publication profile commensurate with career stage
 - at most four years of work experience after the Ph.D. (this
excludes periods of parental leave and/or obligatory service)
 - evidence of both teamwork skills and independent thinking
 - the hired candidate must take a registered residence in Berlin,
Germany

Desired Qualifications:
 - research interests that relate to existing expertise at ZAS,
especially in the semantics-pragmatics group (e.g. measurement,
cross-linguistic semantics, syntax/semantics interface, pragmatic
modeling)
 - interest in and extendable knowledge of experimental methods and
statistics
 - leadership and grant writing skills

We value diversity and welcome all applications - regardless of
gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, disability,
age and sexual orientation. Applications from severely disabled
individuals will receive priority consideration if qualifications are
equal.   The ZAS is certified by the audit "berufundfamilie" for
ensuring family-friendly working conditions. The ZAS strives to
strengthen the gender balance and diversity of the staff in all
working areas and at all scientific levels. Members of groups
traditionally underrepresented in German academic positions as well as
in science-supporting positions are especially encouraged.

Applications should be sent in one PDF file to the email address
listed below. The PDF file should contain a cover letter including a
research plan, the CV, documentation of relevant periods of parental
leave and/or obligatory service, the names and e-mail addresses of
three potential referees (no letters need to be submitted at this
stage), and up to three sample publications, which may include a
dissertation.
