Meeting Description:
The Multidisciplinary Approaches in Language Policy and Planning (LPP)
conference brings scholars from different disciplines (language
education, anthropology, political studies, social sciences,
economics, linguistics, and more) whose work centres on language
policy and planning at different levels: local, national and/or
international. The LPP conference was created by Dr. Tom Ricento in
2012 at the University of Calgary, where it was hosted until 2016. In
2017, the LPP conference moved to Toronto, where it was co-hosted by
Dr. Jeff Bale and Dr. Eve Haque at OISE/University of Toronto until
2019. After eight successful years, LPP2020 was cancelled due to
COVID-19 but LPP2021 and LPP 2022 were co-hosted by Dr. Mela Sarkar
and Dr. Amir Kalan at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. 2024
marks the first year the conference will be held in Ottawa and, as an
in-person conference, the theme is 3D: Diversities, Discourses, and
Digitalization.
Call for Papers:
The 2024 iteration of the conference series Multidisciplinary
Approaches in Language Policy and Planning will be held at Carleton
University (Ottawa, Canada). This marks a return to an in-person
conference mode and, as such, the conference theme is 3D: Diversities,
Discourses, and Digitalization. With this theme, we ask the following
questions: How are diversities addressed by language policies? How is
discourse used to design, interpret, implement and evaluate policies,
on the one hand, and to investigate, understand, critique, and improve
language policy and planning, on the other? And how does language
policy and planning evolve in the digital contexts that make up our
online environments?
