Postdoc Position in Second Language Acquisition
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah invites applications
for the position of a two-year postdoc in Second Language Acquisition to begin
July 1, 2023, pending budgetary approval. The successful candidate must have
completed a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related
field/discipline by the time of appointment.
This position involves a specialization in Second Language Acquisition.
Candidates who might also be able to contribute in at least one other area of
Linguistics (e.g., Language Assessment, Phonology, Pragmatics, Semantics,
Sociolinguistics, Syntax, etc.) will be given special consideration. The
successful candidate will have a background in the fundamentals of Second
Language Acquisition and sufficient background in L2 pedagogy and language
teacher training to be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the
existing curriculum within the Department of Linguistics and courses for the
MALP (Master of Arts in Language Pedagogy) degree in the Department of World
Languages and Cultures. The person hired into this position will also be
expected to conduct research and contribute to the literature in second
language acquisition and/or another core area of linguistics. We especially
encourage applications from candidates who are eager and qualified to conduct
collaborative research with members of our faculty, contribute actively to the
success of the department’s research and teaching missions, and contribute to
increasing the diversity of the department’s intellectual life and offerings
through experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Duties include maintaining a standard teaching load for postdocs at the
University and sustaining a research program. The person hired for the
position will also be expected to help foster relations between the Department
of Linguistics and other departments, centers, and programs within the College
of Humanities and the University. The salary for this position is competitive
and commensurate with the person’s qualifications. The University of Utah
