Description:

The School of Chinese as a Second Language at Peking University (PKU) invites
applications for tenure-track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor positions in
the area of Chinese linguistics and language acquisition (in particular
learning and teaching of Chinese language as a second language).

Peking University (PKU) is a pioneering institution in the field of teaching
Chinese language as a second language. The School of Chinese as a Second
Language at Peking University can trace its history back to the 1950s, and has
earned its prestige in both Chinese language education and research. The
faculty have a wide range of research interests related to Chinese linguistics
and language acquisition, including second language acquisition,
psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, teaching methodology, teacher
development, Chinese culture and intercultural communication. As a member of
the faculty, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with passionate
colleagues and talented students.

Requirements: 
A successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria: 
 - holds a doctorate degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, education,
psychology, or related fields from a university of reputable international
standing.
 - has an established track record of research and publications in reputable
peer-reviewed international journals in the relevant fields.
 - possesses standard Mandarin Chinese pronunciation and strong teaching
capability.

Responsibilities:
A successful candidate is expected to: 
 - contribute to teaching and course development at the graduate level,
including supervising and counseling graduate students.
 - teach Chinese language courses to international students.
 - develop a strong research agenda and maintain a strong publication record.
 - undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and to contribute to other
service-related activities at the academic group or institutional level.
 - establish partnerships with local and international researchers and
practitioners to explore avenues for research and teaching that have a
significant impact on the field of language learning and teaching

Closing Date: 
Open biannually. Deadline for applications in 2023 is 15 April (for the first
half of the year) and 15 October (for the second half of the year).

A candidate should submit ONE PDF file for each of the following 6 documents:
 - an application form that clearly states your interest in the position and
highlights your qualifications and relevant experience;
 - a certificate of degree verifying that you hold a PhD at the time of
application;
 - a comprehensive CV that includes your education background, professional
experience, statement of teaching and research, and a list of publications;
 - up to 10 representative publications that demonstrate your research
achievements and contributions to the field of language learning and teaching;
 - at least three letters of recommendation, which can be from supervisors or
collaborating supervisors;
 - a research plan outlining your proposed research activities and objectives
for the next 3-5 years.
