Description:
The Université de Sherbrooke is seeking candidates for a regular,
full-time faculty position in the Department of Arts, Languages, and
Literature in English studies, with a specialization in Second
Language Acquisition of English. The Department invites applicants to
fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Faculty of
Arts and Social Sciences.
Main duties:
- Teach at all graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Supervise graduate students at the MA and PhD levels.
- Develop fundamental and applied research activities.
- Take part in university life.
- Contribute to community service.
Qualifications:
- Hold a PhD in applied linguistics, or in English with a specialty
in applied linguistics, or in a discipline pertinent to the position.
- Have a marked interest in university pedagogy and teaching as well
as for research, development, and innovation.
- Demonstrate strong ability to supervise graduate students.
- Have teaching experience in at least two of the following areas:
English linguistics, English grammar, literature and second language
learning, second language assessment, sociolinguistics and second
language learning.
- Have an outstanding publication record in peer-reviewed journals,
testifying to an excellent research record.
- Demonstrate skills in establishing and maintaining good
interpersonal relations, a sense of collaboration, and teamwork
skills.
- Demonstrate qualities of leadership and initiative as well as
outstanding skills in communicating and effectively and harmoniously
interacting with various internal and external partners.
- The successful candidate must be able to teach in English and in
French.
- To be able to abide by the requirements in line with the
responsible behavior of research.
- Experience in interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or
transdisciplinary research as well as in knowledge transfer will be
considered an asset.
Work conditions:
Working conditions are governed by the collective agreement in effect
between the University and the Syndicat des professeures et
professeurs de l'Université de Sherbrooke (SPPUS).
Regular full-time position.
Expected start date: 1 December 2023.
