Abstract:

Het Frans heeft in de loop der eeuwen veel invloed gehad op het
Nederlands. Er zijn duizenden Franse woorden in het Nederlands
terechtgekomen en daarnaast heeft het Nederlands morfologische
elementen zoals suffixen overgenomen uit het Frans. Ook wordt wel
aangenomen dat de populariteit van bepaalde Nederlandse
morfo­syntactische constructies het gevolg was van het taalcontact met
het Frans. Hoewel vanwege al deze Franse invloeden van ‘verfransing’
in de Nederlandse taalgeschiedenis wordt gesproken, is er tot nu toe
weinig empirisch onderzoek gedaan naar de daadwerkelijke invloed die
het Frans op het Nederlands heeft gehad.

Het doel van dit proefschrift is om inzicht te geven in de invloed die
het Frans op het Nederlands heeft gehad in de periode van 1500 tot
1900. Dit wordt gedaan aan de hand van corpusanalyses met het
diachrone Language of Leiden-corpus, waarin teksten uit Leiden zijn
opgenomen uit verschillende sociale domeinen. De corpusanalyses
brengen de taalveranderingen in het Nederlands als gevolg van
taalcontact met het Frans in kaart op drie taalniveaus: het lexicon,
de morfologie en de morfosyntaxis. Op deze manier wil dit proefschrift
een zo compleet mogelijk beeld geven van de invloed van het Frans op
het Nederlands.
