Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor in Linguistics
Job Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor
Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; General Linguistics; Language

Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah invites
applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position to
begin July 1, 2024, pending budgetary approval. The successful
candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a closely
related field by the time of appointment.
This position involves a specialization in Indigenous languages of the
Americas with an additional specialization that would build on or
intersect with the Department’s existing strengths. The successful
candidate will have experience and/or a strong interest in working
with Indigenous communities on language documentation, acquisition,
and revitalization. The person hired into this position will be
expected to conduct and publish research. We especially encourage
applications from candidates who are eager and qualified to conduct
collaborative research with other members of our faculty, who will
contribute actively to the success of the Department’s research and
teaching missions and embrace and support the Department’s commitments
related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. https://linguistics.utah.

Duties include a sustained research program and a teaching load of
four courses per year, normally two each semester. There are also
opportunities for possible mentorship of graduate and undergraduate
student-scholars and a modest amount of Departmental and/or College
and University service. The holder of this position must be able to
work with students in a field methods course as part of the teaching
assignment and with students who may be interested in learning more
about Indigenous languages (in some cases, their heritage languages)
through language documentation, revitalization, and the study of
language acquisition. The salary for this position is competitive, and
the University of Utah offers a generous benefits package.
