Description:
The Department of English, Linguistics and Theatre Studies at the
National University of Singapore invites applications for a Lecturer
appointment on the Educator Track Scheme, to begin in July or August
2024. We are seeking a linguist with expertise in discourse studies,
who is also able to teach introductory linguistics.
The purpose of the NUS Educator Track Scheme is to attract, nurture,
and retain suitably qualified and highly effective faculty members who
approach teaching as a scholarly practice, and who therefore focus on
and are passionate about excellence in teaching as a means of
supporting student learning. The initial appointment will be made on a
2- to 3-year contract, and there is a career progression path for
promotion (Lecturer > Senior Lecturer > Associate Professor >
Professor).
Applicants should have a PhD in Linguistics and a strong commitment to
teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching load
on the Educator Track is equivalent to a 3:3 load (three courses per
semester, totaling six per academic year) and the successful candidate
will be expected to teach large foundational courses and as well as
advanced courses in discourse studies. There will also be
opportunities to supervise student research.
Applications should be submitted to the University’s Career Portal at
the link below and the following documents must be uploaded :
- A brief cover letter highlighting the applicant’s educational
background and major accomplishments in teaching, as well as courses
that the applicant would be interested in teaching;
- A complete curriculum vitae;
- A teaching portfolio comprising a Preface (maximum 300 words) that
should be a highly distilled summary of the applicant’s key
contributions to student learning and educational leadership (if
applicable), guided by their teaching philosophy; and a Teaching
Statement (maximum 3,000 words, excluding appendices) that focuses on
evidence of student learning and educational leadership (if
applicable). Non-exhaustive examples of such evidence include the
applicant’s reflections on their educational approach/teaching
philosophy (required), information on courses taught and sample course
materials (required), and student feedback (required). Appendices must
not exceed 30 pages.
- A completed Personal Particulars Form (https://www.nus.edu.sg/caree
rs/potentialhires/applicationprocess/personal-particulars-form-academi
cstaff.doc)
- A completed Personal Data Consent Form (https://www.nus.edu.sg/care

b-Applicants.pdf)
Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to
be submitted to the email address for applications listed below.
Please do not include any from the main supervisor of the applicant’s
PhD thesis; the Search Committee will write separately to the
applicant’s main supervisor. For full consideration, please submit a
complete application, including letters of recommendation, by January
31, 2024. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
Enquiries may be directed to the contact listed below. Further
