Meeting Description:
The Forum for Germanic Language Studies (FGLS) is an informal grouping
for researchers interested in the linguistics of the Germanic
languages in the UK and Ireland. Founded in 1994, the group's purpose
is to promote research and teaching in the Germanic languages. The
16th Forum for Germanic Language Studies conference will be hosted by
the University of Cambridge, meeting at Newnham College. This will be
a fully in-person event.
We invite submission of abstracts for papers on any linguistic aspects
of (or metalinguistic perspectives on) any Germanic language or
variety, including English (to the Early Modern period) and the
extraterritorial varieties. Papers from any area of linguistics
ranging from formal linguistics to sociolinguistics are welcome. Talks
should be 20 minutes long to allow time for discussion. Conference
languages are English and German. Abstracts should be no longer than
300 words in length and will be peer-reviewed by the conference
programme organisers.
The conference also features two panels: (a) multilingualism and
language policy and (b) linguistics in teaching Germanic languages.
All abstracts should be submitted by 15 December 2023 to Sheila Watts
«sw271 at cam.ac.uk». The subject of the email should be «SURNAME
Abstract FGLS 2024». If you propose a paper for one of the two panels,
please state this clearly in your email.
