Subject: The Word Ladders mobile app is out! 


Word Ladders is a free linguistic game designed by the ABSTRACTION lab
at University of Bologna, funded by the ABSTRACTION ERC starting grant
(ERC-2021-STG-101039777) led by Marianna Bolognesi, PhD. Through the
app our research group will collect linguistic data that will be used
to investigate how word specificity changes as a function of speakers'
age, expertise, reading habits.  Moreover, the ABSTRACTION project
will use these data to understand how specificity and concreteness
interact in the human mind, in determining texts' readability and in
the generation of creative and effective metaphors.

Goal of the WORD LADDERS game: Build the longest ladder, adding words
above and below a given prompt. Add generic words above the prompt and
specific words below. For instance: given TABLE you may add FURNITURE,
OBJECT etc above the prompt, and COFFEE TABLE below. Words become
increasingly more difficult, level after level.

Track your own progress through time, challenge your friends in
one-to-one matches or group games, win badges, and climb your
vocab!🪜📚🧠
