Meeting Description:

The aim of FDG2024 is to further elaborate the model of Functional
Discourse Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan
Mackenzie. Full treatments of FDG may be found in: Hengeveld, Kees and
Mackenzie, J. Lachlan. 2008. Functional Discourse Grammar: A
typologically-based theory of language structure. Oxford: Oxford
University Press; and in Keizer, Evelien. 2016. A Functional Discourse
Grammar for English. Oxford: Oxford University Press.

All sessions at the conference will be plenary, so as to enhance
discussion between participants. A poster session will be part of the
programme. The language of the conference will be English.

The venue
FDG2024 will take place at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos –
UFSCar, São Carlos - SP, Brazil. Transportation from the airports of
São Paulo and Campinas to the venue will be offered at an additional
fee.

Organizing Committee
The members of the Organizing Committee are: Michel Fontes
(Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul – UFMS/CPTL), Marize
Mattos Dall'Aglio Hattnher (Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP),
Taisa Peres de Oliveira (Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul –
UFMS/CPTL), and Flavia Bezerra de Menezes Hirata Vale (Chair,
Universidade Federal de São Carlos - UFSCar).

Programme Committee
The board of the Functional Grammar Foundation (FGF) has appointed a
Programme Committee that consists of the following members: Daniel
García Velasco (Universidad de Oviedo), Kees Hengeveld (Chair,
University of Amsterdam), and Flavia Bezerra de Menezes Hirata Vale
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos). The Programme Committee will
evaluate anonymized abstracts and decide on their inclusion in the
conference programme. Abstracts submitted by members of the Programme
Committee themselves will be evaluated by an independent member of the
board of the FGF.

Further information on accommodation, fees, and registration will be
provided in the second circular.

Preconference course (1-2 July 2024)
The preconference course on FDG prepares students for participation in
the conference and is aimed at graduates and postgraduates. The course
will be taught by Kees Hengeveld (Universiteit van Amsterdam) and
Evelien Keizer (Universität Wien). The course will be taught in
English.

Call for Papers:

Abstracts
Abstracts should contain at least the following items: a clearly
defined and well-motivated research question; the crucial examples
illustrating the relevance of the research question; and the main
conclusions of the paper. Abstracts should be approximately 1,000
words long, i.e. roughly 3 pages, and should not contain the name of
the author. References to literature cited should be provided in
addition to the 1,000 words. References containing the name of the
author may also be given but will be suppressed before the abstract is
sent to the programme committee. Please indicate in the accompanying
message whether you want to present a paper or a poster. The deadline
for the submission of abstracts of papers and posters is February 1,
2024. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to the
International Secretary of the FGF at
