Position Description
The Department of Linguistics (https://linguistics.ucsc.edu/) at the
University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a
position at the (tenure track) Assistant Professor level. Applicants
should have research expertise and teaching potential in Experimental
Linguistics and/or Psycholinguistics. We welcome candidates with a
secondary strength that complements their areas of primary expertise.
The Department of Linguistics at UC Santa Cruz works to advance the
understanding of human linguistic ability. Faculty and students pursue
their research by engaging a range of methods, including
computational, experimental, formal, and field methods; and by close
examination of particular languages. They build models of linguistic
knowledge and of the physical and cognitive processes that support
language production and comprehension. The department has significant
research strengths in phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics,
semantics and syntax, as well as pragmatics. It offers two
undergraduate majors, in Linguistics and in Language Studies, as well
as two graduate degrees (MA and PhD), preparing students for careers
in research, teaching, and industry. The successful candidate will
contribute to existing strengths in the Department but will also add
to those strengths in new and substantive ways, and will contribute to
the undergraduate and graduate curricula, including the mentoring of
graduate and undergraduate students.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Linguistics or a closely
related field;
- record of research and teaching
