Welcome to the 4th International UCM Predoctoral Conference on English
Linguistics (UPCEL 2024) which will be held on January 23 and 24, 2024
in the Faculty of Philology Complutense University of Madrid. This
conference is organised by the PhD Programme in English Linguistics at
UCM. Its main purpose is to get together predoctoral students and
early career researchers from various linguistic fields. It will be a
great opportunity to share completed investigations inasmuch as work
in progress. This year’s edition is titled "Language beyond
boundaries" and it aims to be a forum for reflection and dialogue on
the new contexts, challenges, methodologies and conceptualisations of
the construct of ‘language’ that 21st-century Linguistics faces.

Call for Papers:
We welcome proposals on English (alone or in contrast to other
languages) from a broad range of linguistic disciplines, especially
those in line with –but not limited to– our conference theme.
Submission is open for both oral presentations and posters:
Oral presentations will last 20 minutes and will be followed by 10
minutes for discussion.
Posters will be presented in a dedicated session and will remain on
display in key areas during the conference. Please follow these
guidelines:
Make sure you use a font big enough (minimum 16 points) to ensure
others can easily read your poster.
Posters should be printed vertically on A1 Paper Size.
During the poster session, please stand by your poster to interact
with others and answer questions.

Each participant may submit a maximum of two proposals in English
(i.e., a single-authored abstract and a co-authored one or two
co-authored abstracts). Proposals must clearly state the research
questions, methodology, data and (expected) results. They should not
exceed 500 words, including references and keywords, and must be
submitted through the SYMPOSIUM platform at UCM (https://eventos.ucm.e
s/103001/upload/language-beyond-boundaries-upcel-2024.html) before
October 15, 2023.
Each abstract must include the following information, to be submitted
in the platform:
- Author information (full name(s), affiliation and e-mail address);
- Title of the presentation;
- Type of contribution (oral presentation or poster);
- Brief description of the contribution (max. 50 words);
- Abstract document (max. 500 words): You may find a template here (ht
